#115 Adventure Trek to the South of Kamchatka 

Priyemysh mountainFor 2 weeks your travel is going through many of the highlights of southern Kamchatka area, - wild, severe, extreme and absolutely fantastic! You will for sure be impressed by splendid views from the tops of southern Ksudach, Khodutka, Mutnovsky and Gorely volcanoes, unique crater lakes as blue and clear as the sky; you will smell an incredible aroma of pine and stone birch, pick up various berries and mushrooms, relax in the thermal rivers and hot springs with bright giant plants and therapeutic effect, and will probably meet kings of Kamchatka brown bear, a lot of foxes, hare, sea eagle etc. However the luxurious vegetation and alpine meadows covered with soft moss will not lull you up, as be ready for numerous river crossings, trekking through the thick cedar and alder bushes, and swamps.
The best time for this kind of route is July – August.

Departure:July 19th– August 03rd

Day 1. Arrive in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Rest and unwind from travel. Accommodation in a hotel.

KsudachDay 2. Flight to Ksudach volcano (1hr 20min one way). Along the way we land twice for drops off food, water and petrol: on Verhne-Opalinskiye springs at hydro-geologists’ & on Sopka Ostraya (809 m).
An excursion around the big crater lakes - Shtyubelya & Klyuchevoye (1000 m). Klyuchevoye lake has a thermal edge with quite hot water and a warm beach, here you can taste your first hot spring bath. Lunch. Flight to the Hot Khodutka river. Bath and relax the rest of the day. Overnight in tents.

Note: since this day sleep in tents setting up the new camp each day. We have about 6 to 8 hours trekking a day, and sometimes it is very strenuous as the terrain is undisturbed and can be pretty tough sometimes.

Day 3. Ascent of Khodutka volcano (2089 m) for panoramic views (8 hrs both ways). Depending on the group fit and wish there is an option to climb Priyemysh mountain (1200 m, 6 hrs), where no less picturesque view opens to you.

Day 4. Trek from Khodutka volcano to Perevalny creek (12-14 km). Here we have a lot of passing through swamps, several small creeks, and through birch forest.

Day 5. Trek from Perevalny creek to a cold spring through the cedar bushes (12 km).

Day 6. Reserve day in case of bad weather.

Day 7. Trek to the upper stream of Mezhkholmovy creek (12-14 km).

Day 8. Trek over Zverinny pass (475 m) to the outflow of Podlesny creek (12-14 km). This pass is known like a ‘bear path’ among the tourists, so make sure to keep your eye open to see the bears, that are abundant here.

Day 9. Trek to Verhne-Opalinskiye hot springs (14 km, 2nd food depot). The hot springs are located in the birch forest on the flat, slightly inclined surface and comprise several griphons with hot water. Gas throughouts can be observed here.

Day 10. Rest and unwind on hot springs or reserve day in case of bad weather.

Day 11. Trek to Vysokaya mt. (20 km) on tundra or forest road. 

Ascending Gorely VolcanoDay 12. Trek to Gorely volcano (14 km).

Day 13. Ascent of Gorely volcano (1829 m). While hiking along a series of secondary craters you will love the one with the bright blue acid lake in it. The view of the surrounding peninsula is sure too impressive.

Day 14. Drive to the foot of Mutnovsky volcano (8 km by truck), ascent of Mutnovsky (2323 m). Along the way we stop to watch Opasny Canyon (Dangerous Canyon 100 m deep with a waterfall inside). On Mutnovsky you will be impressed by this perpetually changing natural wonder of steaming fumaroles, boiling mud pots and glaciers of this huge volcanic massif. In March 2000 steam blasts rocked one of the craters while within it a glacier began to collapse. A large section of the glacier vanished and a blue acid lake appeared amid the broken ice. Standing on ice you will at the same time feel the hot breath of the earth here.

Day 15. Reserve day. Drive back to PKC. A farewell dinner in a restaurant. Accommodation in a hotel.

Day 16. Drive to the airport for your departure home.

Group size is 10–15. 

Included are accommodation, full board en route, bed & breakfast in the city, helicopter, all transfers and local transportation, guide, interpreter and cook services, visa invitation and visa registration, permits.

Note: We try to stick to the itinerary as close as possible but we reserve the right to change it due to weather or other factors out of our control. In case of bad weather conditions, when it is impossible to fly to the area of Ksudach volcano, you will be offered the following alternative program.
