#118 Explore the underwater world of Kamchatka
(Diving in the bays of the Avacha Gulf) .

A world of adventure waits for you underwater the Avacha Gulf, and we are just waiting for the chance to take you there. You will be surprised by the contrast of the severe water surface and fantastically bright and vibrant bottom. Our underwater world is one of the amazing new experiences and memorable encounters where you will see and get close to some of nature's most astonishing creations, like sea urchins, actinia, ascidium, sponges, several species of starfish, crabs, sea cucumbers etc.  Diving will take you to new places and introduce you to new friends who will share your fascination for exploring and discovering the exciting world beneath the sea. It is an experience like no other on our planet.

Departures: only for tour companies and completed groups 

Day 1. Arrive in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Short city tour with visiting historical monuments and viewing spot. Accommodation in a hotel

Day 2. Transfer to the boat terminal. 5-hour trip towards Russkaya Bay. Along the way you will be able to see noisy bird rookeries of sea gulls, puffins, cormorants, gullimots, and if we are lucky we will be able to observe the Sea Eagles in their natural habitat. Sea mammals are also abundant in the waters of the Avacha Gulf - seals, which are quite numerous and curious, dolphins, fur seals and possibly whales. Stop for one dive in Tikhirka Bay. Landing ashore is possible in good weather conditions. Lunch & dinner on board, NOTE: a group of 4-5 persons may dive at once, then the next groups dive.

Day 3. 1-hour boat trip to Kekurnaya Bay. Diving at Kekurny Cape (2 times). 32 species of fish are permanent residents of the Avacha Bay. Such species as flat fish, rasp, sea perch, halibut and also all kinds of Pacific salmon are among them. Sea products of Kamchatka are very delicious and contain a considerable quantity of vitamins and proteins. Almost everyone has tried such seafood as shrimps, mussels and crabs, but there are very few persons, who have ever tried such delicious things as sea-urchins' roe and sea cucumbers. Watch a sea-lion rookery. Return to Tikhirka or Russkaya Bay (depending on weather conditions). One night dive. Lunch and dinner onboard.

Day 4. 2-hour boat ride to Zhirovaya Bay and then to Vilyuchinskaya Bay (2 dives at La perouse Rock and Zelyony Cape). Lunch on board. Transfer to Peschanaya Bay for dinner and overnight (40 min). One dive at Piramydny Cape.

Day 5. Sail to Starichkov Island (2,5 hours). In summer time the picturesque shores of the Starichkov Island attract a lot of tourists and divers. In the sea, not far from the shore of the island there are Karaulny and Chasovoy kekurs (sea rocks which were formed by marine sediments). A pair of sea eagles, registered in the "Red Book of Russian Federation" (the book of rare species) lives on the Karaulny kekur. 2 dives from the nner side of the Island. Return to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (2 hours).

Day 6. Reserve day in case of bad weather. Optional excursion to the Valley of Geysers (to be paid in cash upon arrival).

Day 7. Drive to the airport for your departure home.

Included: double accommodation, visa invitation and registration, transfers per program, double accommodation in the Avacha hotel, full board en route, bed & breakfast in the city, guide, interpreter and cook services, common diving equipment – flippers (if needed), weights, balloons, air, oxygen), visa support, permits.

Excluded: airplane tickets, insurance, alcohol, personal equipment (diving suit, musk, compensator, octopus etc.), 6-hour join-in helicopter excursion to the Valley of Geysers (to be paid in cash upon arrival in the amount of 520 US$, depends on weather and group completion.

You will dive from the two-decked boat. Length – 20,5 m, width – 5 m, 150-horse-power engine,  max speed – The boat is equipped with navigation system, jps, echo-sounder, plotter, radio transmitter, satellite phone (for long journeys), 10 – 12 berths, kitchen, toilet, shower.   
NOTE: all tour participants must have NAUI, PADI, CMAS or other international certificates.

Average water temperature in July-September is 10-15 ° C on the surface, 6-8 ° C at the depth 10 m and 3-6 ° C at the depth 20m. Visibility depends on the depth and season. Below the temperature-jump layer (thermocline) it increases up to 7-10 m. On areas adjoining the entrance of the bay in summer the visibility averages at 10 – 15 m.

Besides diving equipment we strongly recommend to bring windproof jacket and sunglasses.
